Italy gives the world culture, and we want to share that culture through the movies we bring directly from Italy - great, award-winning, recent (with English subtitles), all with interesting stories of relationships, love, hate, work, food, identity, all the passions of life.
The SDIFF shows films throughout the year to a continually growing audience, last year filling over 5,000 seats. Almost all films are San Diego premieres, and the SDIFF is practically the only movie bridge between our local scene and Italian culture everywhere.
While we have a home at the Museum of Photographic Arts, we also are moving into other neighborhoods that can help us in our mission to spread Italian culture. Two such neighborhoods are La Jolla and North Park. La Jolla will attract many who are interested in the more artistic and academic aspects of Italian culture, while North Park resembles very much a neighborhood in an Italian city, with many areas for walking, lots of interactions among residents, visitors, small businesses, and this area promises an even greater vitality in the future. The theater we use in North Park is an original but beautifully restored 1920’s movie palace, 750 seats, and is part of an economic development project which will eventually make right behind the theater a piazza, perfect for what the SDIFF wants for the future.
The mission of the Museum of Photographic Arts is to inspire, educate and engage the broadest possible audience through the presentation, collection, and preservation of photography, film and video.
Since its founding in 1983, the Museum of Photographic Arts (MoPA) has been devoted to collecting, conserving and exhibiting the entire spectrum of the photographic medium. The museum’s endeavors consistently address cultural, historical and social issues through its exhibitions and public programs.
The Museum of Photographic Arts is accredited by the American Association of Museums and is a member-supported, private, non-profit institution.
